Children's Choir HistoryThe Children's Choir was formed in 1995 as a tuition-based children's choir to expose, educate and develop youth between the ages of 8 and 14 to classical music. The choir consists of up to 30 children age 8 to 14 from Blair County and surrounding areas under the direction of Jen and Scott Pappal. New members to the children's choir must audition, however they do not re-audition annually. The children's season consists of two concerts: a Christmas concert in December with the adult chorale and a concert in the spring. They perform in venues such as the Mishler Theatre and area churches. In addition to the concerts, the choir participates in local arts events performs with other groups. In addition, they perform the national anthem at the Altoona Curve and conduct an annual mini-tour to six local elementary schools where they perform at assemblies. The choir rehearses weekly September through May. The $25 monthly tuition is because the program is education based. Need-based scholarships are available. The BCC has six part-time contract positions: Jeffrey L. Webb, Artistic Director; Jen and Scott Pappal, Children's Choir Conductors; Sue Cossitor, Accompanist; Nancy Hamil, Librarian; and Jane Gable, General Manager. We are a 501(C)3 not-for-profit Pennsylvania Corporation with a Board of Directors made up of community leaders and classical music lovers plus two non-voting choral representatives.
