St. John the Evangelist Church, after-concert party at Heidelberg Country Club
Autumn is always a time of celebration … harvest, homecoming, the changing of the seasons and, since the Middle Ages, OKTOBERFEST. Join the BCC as we celebrate all things autumnal, with such works as Aaron Copland’s “The Tenderland,” Haydn’s “Creation,” Randall Thompson’s “Frostiana,” and opera choruses by Verdi and Rossini plus … wait for it … BEER! Yes, the concert (which starts a half-hour ealier than usual) will close with a few selections from “The Beer Choir Hymnal” and then you’ll have the option of traveling up the hill from St. John’s to the nearby Heidelberg Country Club for a post-concert OKTOBERFEST party featuring German food and German beer and a fun sing-along. The additional cost of the party for concert-goers is only $20 for food, beer and your own “Beer Choir Hymnal” so you can join in on the singing!
Readings & Carols
Saturday, December 16, 2017 | 7:30 p.m.
Wolf Kuhn Theatre, Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts, Penn State Altoona
A beautiful way to celebrate the one of the most beloved holidays of the year … a program similar to a traditional “Lessons & Carols” but pairing favorite songs of the season with poetry instead of scripture. This evening will feature the largest inter-generational gathering of singers in the Blair Concert Chorale’s history, combining the BCC with the BCC Children’s Choir, the BCC High School Honor’s Choir and a guest Elementary Chorus.
Saturday, April 14, 2018 | 7:30 p.m.
St. John the Evangelist Church
The BCC will close its season with two contemporary works that celebrate life and living in today’s society. The concert will open with the delightful #TWITTERLIEDER, a composition by Charles Anthony Silvestri & James Eaken that light-heartedly chronicles the cycle of a person’s life from youth to old age through 15 “tweets” (none presidential, however) limited to only 140 characters each! The second half of the concert will feature ALZHEIMER’S STORIES by Robert S. Cohen and Herschel Garfein, a beautifully-rendered and powerful oratorio created from narratives submitted by patients, families and caregivers dealing with this difficult and debilitating condition.
